Abased & Abound

Simplicity, 2011.

Works on View: Oct 1st – 31st 2011
Artist’s Reception: Sunday October 9th 2011, 1pm to 4pm

Norristown, PA – Oct 1st – This October Pagus welcomes Caroline deCamp for her first solo show titled Abased & Abound.  The dozen works defy easy classification.  When asked, deCamp talks about them as drawings, with quilt patterns used as a starting point, and as titles for each work.  Each piece is a combination of security envelopes with intricate patterns and color that appeal to the artist.  Collected over the past five years, the envelopes were mailed to deCamp, her family and friends.  deCamp goes through a process of sketching out each quilt pattern, then intuitively chooses which security envelope will work best.  Titles like Love Knot (Green) and Bright Hopes Block extend the drawings into narrative beyond their geometrical patterns.

Caroline deCamp graduated from Tyler School of Art, with a BFA in Painting in 2006.  She most recently participated in the Color, Geometry, & Abstraction show at Pagus. She lives and works in Philadelphia, PA.
